A generated photo can look convincing while getting important things wrong. The decision to post it needs more than a quick check that it looks attractive. Use three questions: does this look like you, does the setting imply something untrue, and does it fit the rules of the place you plan to share it?
First, check the person
Compare the result with an ordinary recent photograph. Look beyond hairstyle and clothes: facial proportions, teeth, hands, body shape and apparent age can all drift. Reject an image that changes features you would immediately notice in person.
- Identity. Keep only images that remain recognisably you, rather than an idealised lookalike.
- Details. Inspect jewellery, fingers, glasses and clothing edges at full size.
- Consistency. Put the generated picture next to your real photos. A markedly different face or body is a reason to leave it out.
Then, check the implied story
A summit, an expensive car or a dog can imply an achievement, lifestyle or relationship. Even a technically accurate face does not make that story true. Prefer neutral settings or situations close to your real life, and avoid using AI to claim an experience you have not had.
Keep genuine recent photographs in your profile. If someone asks whether an image was generated, answer plainly. An introduction becomes less useful when it creates expectations you cannot comfortably meet.
Check the rules where you share it
Platform requirements can change and may distinguish ordinary profile images from identity or selfie verification. Read the current guidance inside your app. Never use a generated image to complete an identity check, and do not treat a successful upload as approval of its content.
